STEPHENVILLE (December 20, 2016) — Stephenville (13-4, 2-0) rode its trademark defense and it delivered again Tuesday as the Honeybees pulled away over the final quarter and change to beat Glen Rose, 38-26, in a 8-4A district game at Gandy Gym Tuesday afternoon.

The Honeybees limited Glen Rose to just two points in the second quarter to build a 16-8 halftime advantage, only to see Glen Rose cut it to 21-19 late in the third.

But Stephenville, beginning with a left-wing 3 by Blair Landes, outscored the Lady Tigers 17-7 the rest of the way.

It was 27-24 early in the fourth, but Stephenville scored six straight, including a Jordan Carter bucket in the paint and four free throws, the last two making it 33-24 with 4:21 remaining.

Then Landes really stuck a dagger in the lady Tigers, hitting another 3 to make it a 9-2 run and pushing the lead to 36-26 with 1:45 left. Freshman Madison Carter finished the scoring with a transition layup in the final minute.

There was not a lot offense either way, and what there was for Stephenville was balanced. Hailey Martin had eight, Landes, Jayci Morton and Ebony Green each netted six, Jordan Carter had four, Payton Wall four, Madison Carter two and Tesslie Baker two.

Glen Rose was paced by Allie Andres with 16 points including a perfect 8-8 from the foul stripe.
