STEPHENVILLE (February 4, 2017) — No. 12 Tarleton State reached 20 wins for the eighth straight season Saturday, and victory No. 20 wasn’t nearly as dramatic as the majority of the first 19.

Ten different Texans scored in the opening 15 minutes and center Romond Jenkins secured his 13th double-double of the season before the game was 17 minutes old as Tarleton sailed to a 86-45 victory over Lone Star Conference cellar dweller Western New Mexico at Wisdom Gym.

It’s the 14th season since joining the NCAA in 1994 that Tarleton has earned 20 wins. Tarleton will take aim at its 500th win since joining the NCAA when Texas A&M-Kingsville brings its six-game win streak to Stephenville next Thursday.

Tarleton maintains a 1.5 game lead over second-place UT-Permian Basin, which held off a late charge to beat West TexasA&M, 77-73, in Odessa Saturday.

Jenkins finished with 23 points while matching a by grabbing 17 rebounds for the third time this season. The senior from Midwest City, Oklahoma also blocked six shots and swiped four steals while playing just 25 minutes.

Nosa Ebwomyi collected a career high 15 rebounds for Tarleton and scored seven points. The balanced Texans also received 12 points from Chantz Chambers in just 20 minutes, nine from Anthony Davis and eight each from Ridell Camidge and Brandon Willis, a true freshman.

No Texan played more than 25 minutes, neither was there a reason for one too.

Western New Mexico was led by Latrell Spivey with 12 points and seven boards. Jordan Enriquez, the younger brother of head coach Matt Enriquez, scored 10, as did Willie McCray.

Tarleton out-boarded WNMU 54-35 and outscored the Mustangs 50-26 in the paint, 20-2 off turnovers, 30-3 in second chance scoring, 17-2 on the fast break and 29-15 off the bench. The Texans committed just four turnovers while dealing 16 assists, blocking seven shots and swiping eight steals.
