STEPHENVILLE (April 3, 2017) – It took an extra day to get it in, but the final result was worth the wait for Tarleton.

The Texans rode a four-run first inning all the way to a 9-3 win over No. 3 Angelo State Monday afternoon to bounce back and earn a series split with the Rams in Stephenville. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, but weather forced a delay to Monday.

Tarleton got things rolling when an Angelo error led things off and then Austin Call ripped a double into the left center gap. Francisco Rodriguez reached on an error that allowed the first two runs to come across before Dylan Lemons drove him home with a single into right center. After Tarleton loaded the bases, Jose Reyes coaxed an RBI walk to put Tarleton up 4-0 after one.

Angelo State answered back with two in the second before Matt Herrick came out of the bullpen to put a halt to the Ram rally. Herrick delivered four shutout innings of one-hit relief to earn his second win of the season.

While Herrick kept Angelo off the board, the offense went back to work in the third with an RBI single from Reyes, an RBI triple from Blake Adams, and an RBI single from Austin Call extended the lead to 7-2. Which held up for two innings until Tarleton pushed across two more in the fifth on Adams’ second RBI of the game and an error that allowed the final run to score.

Meanwhile, the Tarleton bullpen continued to deal.

Hunter Houston, Eli McLane, and Conner Fletcher allowed one run over the next three innings. Houston’s sixth inning was a 1-2-3 effort. Then, Eddie Avila came on and got the last three outs in the ninth.

Adams and Reyes each drove in two RBI to lead the way while Hunter Seales boasted a 3-for-4 effort. Reyes, Lemons, Call, and Adams each had two hits while Francisco Rodriguez and Jake Shelby had one hit each to round out the 13-hit attack.

Tarleton will head to Portales, New Mexico this weekend for four games at Eastern New Mexico.
