STEPHENVILLE (April 28, 2017) – Tarleton held an 8-3 lead through six innings, but Cameron scored the final eight runs, including three in the 11th inning, to top the Texans 11-8 on Friday at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.
Tarleton trailed 3-0 after the first inning on three walks and three hit batters in the inning that led to Aggie runs.
Blake Adams led off the second inning for Tarleton with a solo home run to left. Jake Hasbrouck doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jon Tauzin. In the third inning, Austin Call tied the game up at 3-3 on a two-out solo home run to left.
Tarleton exploded with a five-run fifth inning with Adams starting the scoring spree with his second home run of the game, a solo shot to left to give the Texans their first lead. Adams finished with a game-high three hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate.
The Texans loaded the bases with no outs and scored a run on Hunter Seales‘ fielders choice to make it 5-3. Francisco Rodriguez doubled down the right field line to bring home a run and later scored on an error to make it 8-3.
While Tarleton was scoring runs to take the lead, Conner Fletcher was shutting the Aggies down on the mound. Fletcher came on in relief with one out in the first inning and threw four no-hit innings before the Aggies managed a single. Fletcher went on to throw 7.1 innings of relief, giving up five hits, four runs (two earned), with seven strike outs to only one walk.
Cameron hit a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 8-5. The Aggies tied the game up in the eighth on three hits and the help of two Tarleton errors.
The Texans appeared to be in position to win the game in the 10th inning, as they loaded the bases with one out, but couldn’t bring the winning run home.
Three more singles and a pair of walks in the 11th allowed Cameron to bring home three runs and take game one of the series.
Tarleton finished with eight hits, with five of the eight coming between Adams and Hasbrouck (2-for-4). Rodriguez, Call and Ben Mauseth all added hits.
With rain scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, the Texans will play one game on Saturday instead of two, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. Tarleton will play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
