Entering the crucial stretch, two Stephenville cowboys – Luke Brown and Marty Yates – lead the world standings in their respective events.
Brown, a team roping header, is No. 1 while his partner, Morgan Mill heeler Jake Long is No. 2 in heeling. Brown has officially earned $59,388.10 in PRCA money competitions applicable to the 2017 season late last year. Long has earned $50,859.31 and is trailing on Cory Petsska at $55,672.49.
Wesley Thorp is third at 45,468.42 and Kory Koontz fifth at $4,633.61 to give Stephenville three of the top five heelers in the world standings. Kaleb Driggers of Huckabay is No. 4 on the heading side with $44,850.61.
Yates leads the world in tie-down roping by more than $6,000, earning $61,865.19 in PRC money, which doesn’t count other vast earnings such as $100,000 as champion of The American and more. Behind Yate, Caleb Smidt is second at $55,196.14.
Other calf ropers with more than $50,000 are Marcos Costa, Shane Hanchey and J.C. Malone. Three-time world champ Tuf Cooper is back on the PRCA tour after sticking with the ERA last year. He is sixth and is the only other competitor with more than $40,000.
