(September 21, 2017) –A lot of things aligned correctly for Tarleton State to be outgained by 253 yards and still defeat Angelo State 30-24 on the road in the Texans’ Lone Star Conference opener last Saturday .
While the two defensive touchdowns will always stand out as the primary catalysts for that victory, Ron Reid did more than his fair share as punter and holder for the Texans.
Reid was tasked with punting the ball eight times and averaged 49.1 yards with five of those efforts exceeding 50 yards and one going 60. He had a punt downed inside the 20, and moments later ASU fumbled a snap that was scooped up and taken 10 yards into the end zone by EJ Speed, who later blocked a punt for the Texans.
But Reid did more than just punt. Twice on field goals and twice more on PATs, the 6-4, 280 pound punter – one of the biggest in all of D2, rest assured – who doubles as a holder snared hight snaps and got them down in time for Sergio Sroka to go 3-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-4 on PATs. With Reid’s assists, Sroka earned Lone Star Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
This is the first weekly honor for Reid in his college career. He is a junior business major from Burleson, where he graduated from Centennial High School.
