(December 30, 2017) — Stephenville rediscovered its offense just in time for Hailey Martin and Jayci Morton to combine for 30 points in a 64-52 victory over Kennedale at Saginaw High School Friday morning.

The Bees are back at Saginaw to continue Whataburger Tournament competition at 5:30 p.m. Friday. They are set to face Bridgeport in a consolation semifinal.

Martin was just 8-16 from the foul stripe but also buried a pair of 3-pointers and two-point bucket for her 16 points. Morton scored six in the first and finished the first half with 11before quieting down in the second half. Jordan Carter and Tesslie Baker added nine points nad eight, respectively.

“It’s about time we play well again, cause we sure havne’t done much of it lately,” said Thorpe who noted earlier that Stephenville sturggled as much in a first-round loss to Bowie Thursday as the Honeybees did in their loss to Glen Rose immediately before the Christmas break. “When Jayci and Hailey, both scoring, we’re a different team. Then you add the nine points from Jordan eight from Tess, and you know with our defense we’ve got a good chance to be successul.”

Rounding out the Stephenville sccoring were Hannah Bernays with 5, Payton Wall 4, Kristen Pettit 3, Madison Carter 3 and Madison Gilder 2.
