(April 3, 2018) – Madison Gilder drove in three RBIs, and the Stephenville Honeybees hosted an 8-5 victory over the Glen Rose Lady Tigers in a home district softball contest Tuesday evening.
Stephenville started out the evening by honoring teachers and coaches before the game and then gave those in attendance a great game to watch.
The Honeybees got things rolling in the bottom of the second inning with a Samantha Luna single to start things off. Luna then made it to second base after an error by the Glen Rose shortstop and then to third on a passed ball.
Jettie Funderburgh’s bunt single scored Luna to make it a 1-0 game for the honeybees. A Morgan DiCiccio bunt single then scored Funderburgh. Kristen Pettit’s single to the pitcher advanced DiCiccio to third base. DiCiccio then scored on a Gilder’s ground ball that made it out to center field and also pushed Pettit across home plate.
In the fourth inning, Pettit reached base after a ground ball and a throwing error. A single by Gilder gave Glen Rose fits and two throws later Pettit made it a 5-1 score for Stephenville
Sky Gaitan’s single in the fifth inning pushed Stephenville further out front as Samantha Luna scored after stealing second base. Pettit and Bianka Garcia scored the final two runs for the Honeybees in the sixth inning.
Garcia got the start and went the distance for Stephenville. She struck out four batters giving up seven hits, and just one earned run for the win.
The Honeybees rapped ten singles on the day with Garcia getting the lone two-bagger.
