STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton moved up one more spot in the latest AFCA national poll to tie the school record for the highest ranking in program history at No. 6.

Tarleton just finished an undefeated regular season for the first time in its NCAA history after shutting out Western New Mexico Saturday afternoon to claim the outright Lone Star Conference Championship. Sunday afternoon, the Texans earned the No. 2 seed in the Super Region 4 rankings and will host an NCAA playoff game Saturday at 1 p.m. against Azusa Pacific.

This marks the fifth different season that Tarleton has been ranked under head coach Todd Whitten. The ninth-year leader of the Texans led Tarleton to its first national ranking in 2001 and took them as high as No. 6 in the nation during the 2002 season. This is the 94th week in Tarleton’s NCAA history the Texans have been ranked, including the sixth straight this year. It is the 18th week in program history that Tarleton has been a national top-10 team, 13 of which have now come under Whitten’s guidance.

Ticket information for Saturday’s playoff game will be announced this afternoon and will be available at the Tarleton Athletics Ticket Office by calling 254-968-1832 or online at TarletonSports.com/Tickets. Spaces for tailgating will go on sale at 2 p.m. Tailgate reservations can be made while spaces last by calling 254-968-9912.
