Texans dominate Panhandle, turn attention to LSC play Thursday

STEPHENVILLE – In their final tune-up before Lone Star Conference action begins, Tarleton improved to 5-1 by cruising past Oklahoma Panhandle State 94-70 Saturday night in Wisdom Gym.

The Texans were led by a 27-point scoring performance from Corinthian Ramsey, who went 8-12 from beyond the arc and 9-14 from the field. His eight three-pointers in the game are the third-most in a single game in program history.

Jesse Hill and Ramsey got the game started with back-to-back buckets for a quick 5-0 lead that ultimately started a 15-3 run over the first five minutes. The Texans maintained a double-digit lead over the rest of the opening half with Panhandle only coming as close as 11 with 6:05 left in the first period.

A Ramsey trey pushed the lead back to 14 and started an 18-6 Tarleton surge over the rest of the half to send the Texans into halftime with a 48-25 lead. Tarleton cruised in the second half, pushing the lead out to as many as 32 with 4:29 left. The Aggies ended the game on a 14-6 run, but the damage was long done by the Texans.

Behind Ramsey in the scoring column was three more double-digit scorers led by Randall Broddie with 14 points on 6-9 shooting. Josh Hawley boasted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Preston Enloe poured in 11 points off the bench. Sam Marshall and Hill each scored six while Ritchie Mitchell scored seven off the bench.

Brandon Goldsmith (5), Isaiah Boling (3), Clashon Gaffney (3), and Dexter Johnson (2) rounded out the scoring. The Texans shot .557 as a team and .516 from downtown, going 16-31 from beyond the arc.

Tarleton will open Lone Star Conference action in Wisdom Gym against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming Angelo State to town next Saturday at 4 p.m.
