Stephenville’s Yellow Jackets (7-11) doubled up on Fort Worth Christian (10-8) in the second quarter and used a theft-prone defense to stop the Cardinals 61-44 on the road Saturday.
The Jackets had an 11-10 first-quarter lead that blossomed into a 29-19 halftime score as Stephenville went on an 18-9 second-quarter run. Trace Morrison had a stellar effort on defense picking up 7 of the Jackets 16 steals. Stephenville scored 23 points off Cardinal turnovers.
Skylar Stilwell was hot-handed on offense with a game-high 21 points hitting 10-of-19 shots from the field. Morrison was also hot hitting 4-of-5 shots. As a team, the Jackets shot 48 percent from the field and netted 5-of-14 three-point attempts.
The Jackets dominated the defensive boards with Grayson Traweek, Aldan Espinoza, and Krece Nowak getting four rebounds each. Stephenville also spread the ball around on offense as Morrison, Traweek and Cody Storrs passed out four assists a piece
Gatesville is up next for Stephenville who will play host in a 12:30 p.m. game at Gandy Gym January 2.
