Hill named LSC Defensive Player of the Week

STEPHENVILLE – Jesse Hill has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career after leading Tarleton to a 2-0 week.

Hill led the Texan defense with six blocks in two games to go with averaging 14 points on 63 percent shooting, 7.5 rebounds and a pair of steals in wins over MSU Texas and Cameron. Hill opened the week with 18 points, seven rebounds, a block and a steal in a win over MSU Texas. Hill had 10 points on 5-5 shooting and four rebounds in the second half against the Mustangs to hold on to the win.

The senior from Waretown, New Jersey followed with game-saving defense against Cameron, blocking five shots and grabbing seven rebounds in the second half to bring the Texans back from a six-point halftime deficit for a 75-65 win. Hill finished the game with 10 points, eight rebounds, a career-high five blocks and a steal. Hill’s rim protection limited the Aggies to just 22 percent shooting and only 26 points in the second half.

Hill is the second Texan to receive LSC Defensive Player of the Week nods this season, joining fellow big man Josh Hawley.

Hill and the Texans will take on Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
