STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton’s Brian Archibald has been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week after his spectacular, one-hit performance at Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday afternoon.
Archibald was one weak, infield single away from Tarleton history as the senior right-hander twirled a one-hit, complete-game shutout to snap a six-game losing skid for the Texans in a 6-0 victory at UAFS.
He was superb from start to finish Saturday as he went six hitless innings with only a pair of walks allowing UAFS to even reach base. In the seventh, UAFS led off the inning with an infield single that hit off the third-base bag. The runner was thrown out trying to stretch it into two bases and then Archibald polished off the shutout by sitting the next two hitters down in order. He struck out a career-high seven in his gem.
The last Tarleton no-hitter was thrown by Brent Wachtman against Prairie View A&M on February 22, 1997.
Archibald and the Texans will make their home debut this weekend at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex against Colorado-Colorado Springs. The series opener is set for 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.
