It’s special feeling every time a Stephenville Honeybee boots home another soccer goal as the school record for team goals continues to rise with one game left in district competition and perhaps seven games total.
If the Bees have anything to say about it the record run will go all the way to a state title that Stephenville is just one year removed from after winning it all in 2017.
Friday night was special as the Bees blanked Mineral Wells 6-0 and Stephenville didn’t play its best soccer. That was likely due to some of the emotion surrounding senior night and the final home game of the season for Stephenville.
With the stands filled, Stephenville didn’t disappoint goal-hungry fans as Claire Choate set up Ciara Johnston’s first goal (hat-trick) of the night with just 45 seconds ticked off the clock.
Johnston would score unassisted six minutes later and Gracie Bales started her own hat-trick with 7:56 left in the first half.
In the second half Bales sandwiched two goals around a deflected-head shot by Johnston to complete the 6-0 shutout.
