Texans fall to West Texas A&M in four

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton fell in four sets (25-14, 15-25, 22-25, 17-25) to West Texas A&M on Tuesday in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym. The Texans move to 12-8 overall on the season but remain at 6-4 in the Lone Star Conference with this match not counting towards the LSC standings.

Tatyana Tuialii-Umi led the Texans with 10 kills while Sofia Tonga had nine kills and Lauren Kersey posted seven kills on a team-leading .286 hitting percentage. Tarleton hit .121 for the match while WT (14-4) hit .210.

The Texans took control of the first set and never let up. They hit a match-high .312 in the opening set which led to a 15-7 lead to start. The lead grew to double digits on Tonga’s kill to go up 21-11. Adriana Darthuy and Natalya Chatham had the final kills to take the 1-0 lead in the match.

West Texas A&M rebounded and evened the match in the second set. The two teams were tied at 11-11 before the Lady Buffs closed on a 14-4 run.

The Lady Buffs took set three after ending the set on a 6-3 push after both teams were tied at 19-19. Tarleton only trailed by two midway through the fourth set at 11-9, but WT reeled off six straight points to pull away and win the match in four sets.

Tarleton will stay home to take on No. 23 Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym.
