Come on out to the Wisdom Gym at Tarleton State University before the end of the month to view a terrific Negro League Baseball display on loan from the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City. The month of February is Black History Month and this display will be available for viewing through Friday, Feb. 28.

There are displays for numerous negro players who went on to play in the Major Leagues after the color barrier was finally broken by Jackie Robinson in 1947.  Some of the greats featured are Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Satchel Paige, Ernie Banks, Monte Irvin and Don Newcombe.  Interesting fact: The number 42 is no longer allowed to be worn by any player in Major League Baseball.  This is in remembrance and to honor the great Jackie Robinson who wore that number when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Come on out and see the display before it is gone!

  1. This is great! We, (Tarleton’s Multicultural Services), put on a similar Program many moons ago. I did Photo shoots, Videography and Public Relations for the Program. I got to meet and drive around a former Negro Baseball Coach. I can’t remember his name but what a dynamic Guest Speaker!
