Concert to Feature Tarleton Latin Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo I

STEPHENVILLE — The Tarleton State University Latin Jazz Ensemble will showcase the melodies of Brazil in “Rhythms of Rio: A Night of Brazilian Jazz” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium. 

Opening the show will be the Tarleton Jazz Combo 1, performing a set of small group jazz including “Tell Me a Bedtime Story” by Herbie Hancock, “All The Things You Are” by Jerome Kern, “Lady Bird” by Tadd Dameron and “Grove’s Groove” by Steve Davis.

The Latin Jazz Ensemble will open their portion of the concert with Hermeto Pascoal’s “Bebê” and will follow with “Desifinado” and  “Inútil Paisagem” by Antônio Carlos Jobim and “O Pato” by Jaime Silva and Neuza Teixeira.

The Tarleton Latin Jazz Ensemble features William Cazares on flute and tenor saxophone, Nicholas Dorazil on alto and soprano saxophone, Jared Parsons on piano, Ethan Gray on electric and double bass, and drummer Blake Rosenberg.

The Tarleton Jazz Combo 1 has Dorazil on alto saxophone, Mattias Piatt on tenor saxophone, Martin Davenport on trombone, Jared Parsons on piano, Andrew Marshall on guitar, Jackson Griffith on bass and Abbye Nash on drums.

Both ensembles are directed by Tarleton State Professor Connor Kent.

Admission is $5 for students and $10 for the general public.
