Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 to be inducted May 3, ceremony tickets on sale now

STEPHENVILLE – The next class of prestigious student-athletes who can forever lay claim to being the best of the best in Tarleton State Athletics will be honored in two months. On May 3, 2025, Tarleton State will induct five new members into the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame; Texan Volleyball’s Hailey Roberts, Texan Track and Field’s Amy Mills (now Amy Mills-Villaseñor), Texan Men’s Tennis’ Steve Maupin, Texan Women’s Basketball’s Kiara Wright (now Kiara Wright-Guy), and Texan Football’s C.W. Adkins.

“I am thrilled to celebrate and honor the 2025 Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame class on May 3, featuring five elite student-athletes from the 1980’s to just this past decade, which proves how exclusive this club really is,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Steve Uryasz said. “Tarleton State Athletics is thriving across the board, a testament to the foundation that these five individuals laid here in Stephenville. I am so excited for Hailey, Amy, Steve, Kiara and C.W., who will always hold the honor of being Hall of Famers.”

Roberts will become the 185th member of the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame, one of the best players in Tarleton Volleyball history. She is the ninth volleyball player to enter the Hall of Fame.

Roberts played for the Texans from 2014-17, appearing in 134 total matches and 485 sets, accumulating 2,389 kills, 1,505 digs, 251 total blocks, 192 service aces and 2,719.5 points. Across program history, she is first in kills, third in service aces, fourth in sets played and fifth in digs. She is one of four Texans with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 digs. In a Texan single-season, she has the top-three most kills in program history. Roberts also owns the top-two matches with the most kills, earning 37 at Texas Woman’s on Sept. 22, 2015, followed by another 37-kill performance vs. Lubbock Christian on Sept. 8, 2016. She had eight 30-plus kill matches in her career – the rest of Tarleton State players in program history have combined for four.

Roberts accumulated an incredible number of awards in her Texan career, including the CCA National Player of the Year (2016), a three-time AVCA First Team All-American (2015, 2016, 2017), a three-time D2CCA First Team All-American (2015, 2016, 2017), a three-time D2CCA Region Player of the Year (2015, 2016, 2017), a three-time D2CCA First Team All-Region (2015, 2016, 2017), a three-time AVCA All-Region player (2015, 2016, 2017), four times First Team All-LSC (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), the LSC Player of the Year (2017), twice the LSC Offensive Player of the Year (2015, 2017), the LSC Freshman of the Year (2014), a Daktronics Third Team All-American (2014), a Daktronics First Team All-Region player (2014), a three-time LSC Championship All-Tournament player (2014, 2015, 2017), twice a S.C. Region All-Tournament player (2016, 2017), Academic All-LSC (2017), CoSIDA Academic All-District (2017), and the LSC Player of the Week 15 times.

Roberts was part of Tarleton State’s first LSC Tournament Championship, which earned the Texans an automatic berth in the NCAA regional tournament in 2014. Roberts helped the Texans win the conference tournament title twice (other in 2017) and advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament all four of her seasons. The Texans went 107-28 (.793) across Roberts’ four years on the team, wining at least 24 matches in each season, including a 29-6 senior campaign.

Roberts is a Cedar Park, Texas, native. She graduated from Cedar Park High School in 2014, earning her bachelor’s degree at Tarleton State University in kinesiology in 2018 and her MBA at Tarleton State in 2019.

Mills will become the 186th member of the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame, an elite student-athlete for Texan Track and Field from 2000-05. She will become the 32nd track and field individual to enter the Hall of Fame, and the 35th overall.

Mills was a star in the 400m Hurdles and on the 4x400m Relay Team for Tarleton State, four times named an All-American and four times the conference champion. In 2005, she broke the program’s 400m Hurdles record at 59.19 seconds, a record that still stands to this day. Mills was an All-Conference student-athlete four times (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005), the team MVP twice (2001-02 and 2004-05), plus was the Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week on April 21, 2005.

In 2001, the Texans were national qualifiers in the 4x400m Relay Team and brook a school record at the time. In 2005, her team was named All-American and broke the record again, this time at 3:42.40, a mark that stood for 10 years.

Mills, a Fritch, Texas, native, graduated from Sanford-Fritch High School in 2000 before earning her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at Tarleton State University in 2007. She is now in her 17th year as a high school teacher and coach, currently at United High School in Laredo, Texas. Across her 17 professional years, Mills has coached nine state qualifiers, many regional champions and district champions.

Maupin will become the 187th member of the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame from his four-year playing career for Texan Men’s Tennis in 1988-92. He will become the eighth tennis individual to enter the Hall of Fame, and the fourth men’s tennis individual overall.

Maupin was a dominant force for the Texans in both singles and doubles. He helped win the 1991 District 8 Doubles Championship and the 1992 District 8 Doubles Championship, and was a NAIA National Tennis Championship Qualifier his last three years (1990, 1991, 1992). His senior year, Maupin was named the 1992 District 8 Men’s Tennis Most Valuable Player. That year he made the finals in both singles and doubles and helped earn enough points for the team to qualify for the national championship, finishing as the singles runner up and the doubles champion.

Maupin, a Lockhart, Texas, native, graduated from Lockhart High School in 1988 before earning his bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports studies at Tarleton State University in 1992 and his master’s degree in physical education at Tarleton State in 1994. Maupin has been a high school tennis coach for 31 years. He’s coached the 1997 Class 4A Boys Singles State Champion, the 2021 Class 5A Boys Singles State Champion, the 2017 Class 4A Girls Singles Runner Up, and was
named the 2018 Texas Tennis Coaches Association Class 5A State Coach of the Year.

Wright will become the 188th member of the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame from her elite four-year career playing for Texan Women’s Basketball from 2010-14. Wright will become the 18th women’s basketball student-athlete to enter as an individual, and the 19th overall member.

Wright is the program’s rebounding leader in the NCAA era with 1,227 career rebounds, one of just three players in program history with 1,000-plus rebounds. She played in 112 career games for Tarleton State, totaling 1,677 points for career averages of 15.0 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game. Wright made 602-of-1,012 field goal attempts, shooting at a 59.5 percent clip. Wright had eight 30-plus point games in her career (14 other instances combined in program’s NCAA era). Wright had six 20-plus rebound games as well (two other instances combined in program’s NCAA era).

The accolades never stopped populating for Wright, who was a two-time LSC Player of the Year (2012-13, 2013-14), a two-time LSC Defensive Player of the Year (2012-13, 2013-14), a two-time Daktronics/D2CCA Region Player of the Year (2012-13, 2013-14), a two-time Daktronics/D2CCA First Team All-Region player (2012-13, 2013-14), a Daktronics/D2CCA National Player of the Year (2013-14), a two-time Daktronics/D2CCA First Team All-American (2012-13, 2013-14), a WBCA First Team All-American (2012-13), WBCA Honorable Mention All-American (2013-14), twice First Team All-Conference (2012-13, 2013-14), Second Team All-Conference (2011-12), and an honorable mention All-Conference (2010-11). In her senior season, Wright scored the second most points in a single-season in program history with 607, averaging 19.6 PPG on 61.3 percent shooting, and 12.3 rebounds per game. In 2012-13, she had a career-high 14.0 RPG, the third best mark in a single-season in program history, while scoring 18.6 points per game on 60.8 percent shooting. Wright has logged the top-two most double-doubles in a single-season in program history, with 23 in each 2012-13 and 2013-14.

Career-wise, Wright is second in program history in double-doubles (59), second in total rebounds, second in rebounding average, fifth in total points, fifth in shooting, sixth in steals (219), seventh in scoring, and eighth in blocks (85). She helped the Texans win the LSC championship three times (2012, 2013, 2014).

Wright is a Pittsburg, Texas, native. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 2010 before earning her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at Tarleton State University in 2015.

The final inductee of the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 is former Texan offensive lineman Adkins, who will become the 189th member of the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame, the 74th football player to enter as an individual, and the 77th football member altogether.

Adkins played for the Texans from 1982-84. He started every game all three years at left tackle, earning First Team All-Conference in a unanimous selection in 1984, in addition to First Team All-Conference honors in 1983. He was an All-American in 1984, the conference’s Most Valuable Lineman, an All-District player and a team captain. His 1984 team played in the Aztec Bowl in Olympic Stadium in Mexico City.

As an offensive lineman, Adkins was voted the Most Valuable Offensive Player. Games that stick out to him are when the Texans traveled to Golden, Colorado, and defeated the Colorado School of Mines, and when Tarleton State beat Henderson State, Adkins was awarded the game ball for going against one of the best defensive ends in the country.

Adkins is a Bishop, Texas, native, who graduated from Bishop High School in 1979, before earning his bachelor’s degree in business in 1985.
