Tarleton Women’s Basketball set for Wisdom Farewell Thursday

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Women’s Basketball will compete at the historic Wisdom Gym for the final time on Thursday, taking on California Baptist at 7 p.m. in a critical WAC game. 

Thursday’s game marks the beginning of Wisdom Gym’s Farewell Tour for Tarleton State Basketball. Early arriving fans will receive a commemorative Wisdom Gym holographic card and $1 beer will be offered for fans 21 or older. 

Tarleton State will also recognize its 2025 senior class pregame starting at approximately 6:45 p.m. The Texans will honor eight players and three support staff members who have been instrumental to the program’s success. 

With CBU tied with Tarleton State for second place in the WAC, Thursday’s winner will be in the driver’s seat for the No. 2 seed at the WAC Tournament next week. The Lancers won the previous matchup on Jan. 16 by one point, with the Texans searching for its first win over CBU in program history. 

Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased online or in-person at the Wisdom Gym Box Office on gameday. Tarleton State students, faculty and staff receive free admission. Students, parents, teachers and staff from local school districts will receive a special promotion for Thursday’s game. Those interested can contact their school for the promotion. 

Free admission will be offered for kids 6 and under. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville’s radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES

  • Tarleton State and CBU will meet for the eighth time in program history. The Lancers won the last matchup 73-72 on Jan. 16 in California. 
  • The Texans will play its final game at the historic Wisdom Gym on Thursday. Tarleton State has won a Division I Era program record 12 games at home this season.  
  • The winner of Thursday’s game will be in the driver’s seat for the No. 2 seed at the WAC Tournament next week. 

FAREWELL TO WISDOM

  • The 2024-25 season will mark the final basketball season played at the historic, 3,000-seat Wisdom Gym. The Texans are currently 12-2 on its home floor. 
  • This season marks the most wins at Wisdom Gym in the Division I Era. It is the most wins in Wisdom Gym by a Tarleton State Women’s Basketball Team since the 2019-20 season.
  • Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wisdom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. Over that time, the gym has become home to All-Americans, ALL-WAC selections, Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, College Insider.com Tournament games, NCAA Regional Tournaments, and NCAA Sweet 16 games.

LEADERS OF THE WAC 

  • Tarleton State currently leads the conference in three categories: Free Throw Percentage (76.6%), Rebounding Margin (7.0) and Rebounds Per Game (37.6). 
  • The Texans are currently second in the WAC in Bench Points Per Game (21.1), Field Goal Percentage Defense (38.7), Scoring Defense (58.5), Three Point Percentage Defense (29.5) and Turnovers Per Game (16.7). 
  • Tarleton State is third in the WAC in Offensive Rebounds Per Game (13.0), Scoring Margin (5.9), Three Point Percentage (31.1), and Winning Percentage (62.1). 

MILESTONE MARKERS 

  • Even though Tarleton State has broken multiple Division I program records, it isn’t done yet rewriting the record books. Several Texans are close to breaking Division I Era program records.
  • Senior guard Arieona Rosborough needs just 11 made field goals to set the new Division I Era single season program record. 
  • Rosborough needs just 53 more assists to break the program’s single season record in the Division I Era. She is currently second in that category.  
  • Senior guard Jakoriah Long needs just 23 more 3-pointers to break the Division I Era single season program record. 
  • Sophomore center Faith Acker needs just seven more rebounds to break the Division I Era single season program record.
