ORLANDO, Fla. – Tarleton Tennis continues to get work done on the court during spring break as the TexAnns split a pair matches with Alderson Broadus and NCAA Division I Creighton at the Lake Crane Tennis Complex in Orlando Tuesday.
Tarleton started its Tuesday with a sweep of Alderson Broadus to improve to 8-2 on the season.
The TexAnns wasted no time jumping out to a dominant 3-0 lead after doubles as the No. 1 tandem of Luiza Ferraro-Adas and Elena Preadca and the No. 3 tandem of Ellie Stevens and Shelby Fillingame handled their matches with 8-0 sweeps while Erika Richarme and Ashleigh Elward won the No. 2 match in an 8-1 fashion.
When singles began, none of Alderson Broadus’ players won more than two sets as the TexAnns rolled to six wins, including Taylor Porter in the No. 6 spot for her first career singles victory 6-1, 6-0.
Preadca moved into the No. 4 spot of the lineup and didn’t miss a beat with a 6-0, 6-0 win while Stevens won by the same margin in the No. 5 position. Ferraro-Adas won 6-1, 6-2 while Richarme (6-1, 6-0) and Elward (6-1, 6-1) handled the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, respectively.
Match 2: Creighton 6, Tarleton 3
In the second match of the day, Tarleton fell to a member of the NCAA Division I Big East Conference, Creighton, in a 6-3 match.
The TexAnns opened the match by owning the advantage after doubles – with Preadca and Ferraro-Adas winning the No. 1 match 6-1 and Stevens and Fillingame handling the No. 3 match 6-4 – but the TexAnns couldn’t hold on in singles as Richarme’s 6-3, 6-4 win in the No. 2 match is the only win the TexAnns could muster in the Tuesday finale.
Tarleton will play its final match of spring break tomorrow with a match against the University of Sioux Falls in Orlando. The TexAnns will return home on March 24 in a battle against St. Edward’s at 5 p.m. in Stephenville.
