ODESSA – Tarleton couldn’t overcome a 24-10 second-half run Saturday afternoon in Odessa as the Texans fell to No. 11 UT Permian Basin 74-67 at the UTPB Gym.

Tarleton came out on fire from the floor as the Texans scored 31 points over the opening 12:30, led by 12 points behind the three-point line from Corinthian Ramsey, who finished the game with a team-high 21 points on 8-17 shooting and 5-13 shooting from downtown. Tarleton built a 12-point lead over that span and led UTPB 31-19 with 7:30 left in the opening half.

The Falcons would answer with a 17-2 run over the remainder of the half, but the Texan defense held the Falcons to 0-3 from the field with a turnover in the final 2:12 to send the game into halftime trailing only 36-33.

Tarleton shot .400 from the floor and .438 from downtown in the opening half, but couldn’t match it in the second. The Texans were .379 from the floor and .294 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes of the game.

The Texans took a one-point lead three minutes into the new half when Jesse Hill converted a layup while being fouled to put the Texans on top 39-38, but the Falcons would retake the lead a minute later and not relinquish it. Tarleton pulled as close as six with 40 seconds left but couldn’t answer the Falcons’ 24-10 run in the second half.

Behind Ramsey’s 21 points, Josh Hawley (14) and Deshawn Riddick (11) also cracked double figures while Jaraan Lands (6), Anthony Davis (5), Preston Enloe (4), Clashon Gaffney (4), and Hill (2) rounded out the scoring.

The Texans will now turn their attention to the second half of the league schedule, which begins in Wisdom Gym Thursday as Tarleton hosts Cameron at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming league rival, Midwestern State, to town Saturday at 4 p.m.
