Dublin welcomes Luke Wade home in holiday style

What began as the city and the chamber of commerce’s annual holiday event in Dublin, has become something even more exciting — Luke Wade Day!

Wade, who has gained recent notoriety on NBC’s hit show, The Voice, is returning home in style today, beginning at 10 a.m. at Dublin ISD’s Secondary Campus. He will speak to the students in Roy and Lynn Neff Gym.

Once done at the school, Wade will continue his celebration tour of the city with the first ‘Luke Wade Day Parade’ at noon. The mini-parade will go from Dublin Bottling Works on Elm Street to Park Street in front of Wright Park. At the park, city officials will present Wade with a Key to the City, before he meets with fans, sings and signs autographs.

Noon will also be the start of the Dublin Chamber’s Shamrocks & Sugarplums Sidewalk Sale and Bazaar, which will continue until 8 p.m. The city’s annual lighted Christmas parade will begin at 6 p.m., with participant line-up at the football field starting at 5:30.

After the parade, Santa will be in the Rotary Building meeting with children and posing for pictures. Word has it, he’ll be there until he’s heard every last Christmas wish.

Dublin Chamber Executive Director Luanne Schexnider said other vendors and activities, like Sweet Delights’ cookie decorating, will be going on in the Rotary Building and around the Corner Lot at the intersection of Patrick and Blackjack Streets.

“We hope to see everyone out in Dublin for a fun-filled, exciting day,” Schexnider said.
