ERATH COUNTY (April 27, 2015) — Erath County’s still here, standing strong.
“The main thing we’re grateful for this morning is that there was no loss of life over the weekend with the massive storm cells that blew through,” Erath County Judge Tab Thompson said at the start of the Commissioners Court meeting Monday morning. “All our storm spotters and everyone else on call did a great job and the emergency notification systems (Code RED, sirens) worked exactly like they should. We’re still here and the clean-up has begun.”
According to Thompson and other county officials, storm spotters and emergency personnel stepped up over the weekend to keep Erath County residents safe and informed. Emergency manager for the county, John Wooley, reported his staff was on hand all weekend, especially Sunday evening when five supercell storm systems all moved through Erath County.
Across the county rainfall totals varied, but flash flooding was reported in low-laying areas around the county. And reports range between a half inch of rain to over five inches locally.
“We have the best storm spotters around and those ham radio guys are invaluable when it comes to these types of things,” Wooley said. “Not only them, but all our storm spotters are great. They work in a grid pattern and communicate so well with one another and us.”
Now, the clean-up begins. County commissioners have crews out working along side TXDOT employees to get limbs and debris out of roadways. City crews from both Dublin and Stephenville are also out working to get limbs and other storm debris cleared. The Stephenville City Park will be open today to take limbs and other items for disposal from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
