(June 2, 2015) — Josh Nowell scored one game-winning touchdown and very nearly added a second for Stephenville in Tuesday evening 7-on-7 football action in Azle.
Nowell hauled in a one-handed catch to lift Stephenville to a 32-27 victory over host Azle in the first game, then was stopped on the one-yard line after a long reception on the final play of a 25-25 tie with Weatherford in the night cap.
Nowell, who will be a senior this fall, finished with four touchdown receptions, all from sophomore Easton Jones, who had nine scoring passes in the two games. Jones now stands alone as the starting quarterback for Stephenville. The other candidate for replacing five-star Baylor signee Jarrett Stidham was Colby Trinkle, who is transferring to Tolar.
Malachi Taylor scored three times for the Jackets, who are idle this weekend and host weekly league play next Tuesday at SHS.
