(June 3, 2017) — Stephenville head coach Bill Brooks makes his all-star coaching debut and will have two local players on his roster to help tip off the Big Country FCA All-Star Classic.
The girls and boys basketball games are slated for 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday at the The Coliseum in Brownwood and begin a stretch of all-star games featuring five sports, the remaining four on Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10 in Abilene and San Angelo.
Brooks just completed his second year directing the boys basketball program at Stephenville, where he was promoted from assistant coach prior to the2015-16 season. The Yellow Jackets have reached the Conference 4A playoffs in each of their first two seasons with Brooks in charge. In his final season as top assistant, Brooks helped head coach Jonathan Normand guide the 2014-15 Jackets to the first Region I-4A championship final appearance in program history. They got there by stunning Abilene Wylie in a multi-overtime game in the regional semifinals and the next day dropped the regional final – also a state quarterfinal – to Kennedale.
Brooks will be coaching the South team Saturday, and his roster includes one of his own players in 8-4A first-team all-district post Coby Vandenberg and 6-3A District MVP Brady Moore, who led Dublin to its first district championship since 2012. The Lions went on to reach the area round of the playoffs. He has since signed a letter of commitment to play for East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
