STEPHENVILLE – Following the sudden departure of longtime coach Bryan Conger to the Texas Rangers, Tarleton Athletic Director Lonn Reisman has announced that assistant coach Brennan Rogers will be named the interim head coach for the 2019 season.

“We have decided to name Brennan Rogers the interim head coach for the upcoming season,” said Reisman. “I would like to express my appreciation for Coach Rogers’ willingness to step up and lead under difficult circumstances. We feel like he will do a fine job under these circumstances.”

It’s been a whirlwind first season for Rogers. The former Division II standout athlete at Arkansas-Fort Smith turned down full-time assistant coach offers to make his way to Stephenville to study as a graduate assistant coach under Conger. He was elevated to the full-time assistant after just one semester.

Rogers played baseball for four seasons at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Over his last two seasons, Rogers played in 96 games and hit .281 with 20 extra-base hits and 55 RBI. He was the 2015 Gold Glove winner at first base for the Heartland Conference and was a two-time conference honor roll award winner.

After wrapping up his time with the Lions, Rogers began his coaching career as an assistant coach for Carl Albert State College. During his time at Carl Albert, Rogers worked with the offense and assisted with recruiting. He also worked defensively with the position players and coached a pair of NJCAA Region II Gold Glove winners, Will Klek (LF) and Ben Klutts (3B).

A native of Greenwood, Arkansas, Rogers earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Arkansas-Fort Smith in 2015. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in kinesiology at Tarleton.

A thorough search for the next full-time head coach of Texan Baseball will take place throughout the spring semester and a final decision will be made after the completion of the 2019 season.
