Mary Elizabeth Derrick, 100, of Stephenville, went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 17, 2020 in Stephenville

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with David Blagg officiating. Interment will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Thursday, one hour prior to services at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Elizabeth was born on February 6, 1920 to the late Frank Hamilton Derrick, Sr. and Mattie Thursa Jordan Derrick in rural Hamilton county near Duffau, Texas. She graduated from Alexander high school in 1937 as valedictorian of her class. She graduated from John Tarleton Agricultural College in 1942, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Texas Christian University in 1956. She did further study at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. She taught public school in Coleman, Texas, and Wentachee, Washington before accepting a position with the United States Security and Exchange Commission in their Fort Worth district. She retired after serving thirty-five years with the Security and Exchange Commission.

Elizabeth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Worth where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also an avid bird watcher and was a member of the Audubon Society for years. Elizabeth loved her country, and was very active in the Erath County Republican party during her retirement years.

Elizabeth is survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her very much, and will never forget their “Aunt Elizabeth”.
