Trace Morrison’s selection as the District 5-4A Special Teams MVP leads a swarm of Yellowjacket All-District selections that includes nine first-team players and an impressive 33 players on the All-District Academic Team.
Morrison was a do-it-all player for the Jackets who played on both sides of the football, turning 59 receptions into 1,008 yards and 10 touchdowns as a wide receiver while recording 46 tackles and 29 solo stops.
Morrison’s kickoffs and punting were instrumental in determining Stephenville’s field position this season and gave second-year coach Sterling Doty plenty of options because of the senior’s placement ability.
DISTRICT 5-4A First Team
Record-setting running back Kason Philips finished the 2020 season with 31 total touchdowns, and he established a new scoring mark with 29 rushing scores in a single season. The senior rushed for 1,745 yards on 245 carries for an average of 7.12 yards per rush.
Senior Gavin Rountree converted from being a first-team All-District receiver as a junior to a first-team All-District quarterback who threw for 2,867 yards, 24 touchdowns. Rountree added 704 yards on the ground for an average of 6.2 yards per carry and had 12 rushing scores.
Junior wide receiver Coy Eakin was the master of getting Stephenville out of third-and-long situations this season. Eakin made some flashy receptions (52) as he accounted for 854 yards and seven touchdowns.
Three of Stephenville’s starting offensive linemen are on the first-team after giving the Jackets multi-set abilities that allowed for a balanced offense. Stephenville had 5,659 yards of offense with 2,925 passing and 2,724 rushing.
The best news for Stephenville football is junior tackle Logan Davis, sophomore Center Mason Butchee, and junior guard Gavyn Sharp will all be back next season.
On the football’s defensive side, senior inside linebacker Colton Accomazzo is a repeat All-District first-team selection as he terrorized offensive backfields with 88 tackles that included 42 solo stops and 10 quarterback hurries.
Sophomore cornerback Ryder Lambert was impressive from the start of the season and didn’t let a cast on his left arm deter him from pulling down a team-leading five interceptions while also recording 41 tackles.
Placekicker Corbin Poston’s selection to the All-District first team came as no surprise as he connected on 7-of-9 field goals (long of 43) and booted through 82 PAT kicks.
Another noteworthy point is all of Stephenville’s first-team All-District selections are also Academic All-District players.
