STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women’s Basketball took care of business once again at Wisdom Gym on Thursday night, clinching its 10th victory at home this season with a 77-46 win over Seattle U.
The Texans, who have won four straight games, clinched double-digit wins at Wisdom Gym for the first time in the Division I Era. Tarleton State has won at least 10 games on its home floor for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
Senior guard Jakoriah Long scored a season-high 25 points, dropping 19 in the first half. Long knocked down seven 3-pointers en route to her season-high, breaking a Division I Era single game program record for 3-pointers previously set by teammate Miannah Little two weeks earlier.
Little added 11 points to go with four assists in Thursday’s game, with fellow senior guard Arieona Rosborough also adding 10 points and four assists. Senior guard Tyler Jackson registered her second double-digit point game of the season with 10 points off the bench.
“We talk about not taking any of our opponents lightly,” Long said. “We’re at the point in the season where every win matters. We just have to clear our minds tonight, get some rest, recover and get ready for Saturday.”
Seattle U attacked early, taking a two-point lead following a layup halfway through the first quarter. Long knocked down a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws before Rosborough came up with back-to-back baskets to make it a 20-15 Tarleton State lead. The Texans ended the first quarter on a 9-0 scoring run to take a 10-point lead through the first 10 minutes.
Tarleton State’s offense continued to light it up in the second quarter, with Long hitting two straight 3-pointers to make it a 17-point advantage. Back-to-back baskets from Jackson and Long’s fifth 3-pointer allowed the Texans to take a 21-point lead, capping off the first half with 58.3% shooting from beyond the arc.
It wasn’t just Tarleton State’s offense turning up the heat, however.
Forcing just 16.7% shooting in the second quarter, the Texans’ defense only allowed three made baskets and five points to Seattle U. Tarleton State did not allow a basket to the Redhawks for the final three and a half minutes of the first half, taking a 28-point lead into the locker room.
The third quarter looked like an encore of the second, with Tarleton State forcing Seattle U to just three made baskets and 16.7% shooting to open the second half. Tarleton State took advantage, shooting 50% from the floor to move ahead by 36 entering the final period.
The Texans continued to strike on offense, scoring on each of their first four possessions of the fourth quarter to move ahead by as many as 40. Seattle U went on an 11-0 scoring run in the fourth quarter, but the Texans’ lead was too much to overcome.
Tarleton State is back at Wisdom Gym on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Utah Valley in a crucial game for the WAC standings. Saturday’s game will be the Play4Kay Pink Out game, with Texans encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Pink headbands will be given out to early arriving fans.
