(April 13, 2015) — Tarleton State (22-18, 9-9) rallied in the seventh inning on Friday and held off a late charge by Cameron (29-12, 11-9) on Saturday to win the nightcaps of two doubleheaders and split its four-game Lone Star Conference softball series with the Aggies in Lawton, Oklahoma.
The TexAnns trailed 4-3 and were three outs from being swept when the nightcap of Friday’s doubleheader reached the seventh inning. But Nyka Wood, who was 2-for-3, unloaded a 3-run double to left center field and the TexAnns added an unearned run on an error to score four times in their final at bat and win 7-4.

Melody Mayse was 3-for-4 with three runs while Wood had four total RBIs.
The TexAnns built a 6-2 lead then held on despite Cameron scoring the final three runs in Saturday’s nightcap.
Taylor Fitzgerald had a two-run double before Delaney Wayland stole home in the second inning to give Tarleton the lead for good. Erika Menchaca had a 2-run home run, her second of the series and team-leading eighth of the season, in the fourth. Wood, who was 2-for-4, added an RBI single in the fourth. Savannah Stech was 2-for-3 and Mikayla Stogsdill 2-for-4 for the TexAnns.
Cameron won the opening games of each doubleheader, 4-3 on Friday and 6-1 on Saturday.
Tarleton struck first in the series opener on the seventh home run of the year by Conlee, a two-run blast to right center in the top of the fourth. But an unearned run in the sixth was all the TexAnns could produce the rest of the afternoon.

Cameron scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Tarleton’s only run came on a solo shot by Menchaca in the top of the sixth.
Cameron remains third in the Lone Star Conference, while Tarleton is sixth, just a half game behind fifth-place Angelo State.
The TexAnns are back home this weekend for a four-game set with Texas A&M-Kingsville. Doubleheaders begin at 5 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday at Tarleton Softball Complex.
