(April 19, 2015) — Bryan Conger won for the 200th time as head coach Saturday when Tarleton State (17-17, 11-13) opened its weekend series at Cameron (15-24, 8-19) with a 3-1 victory.
Matt Herrick started on the mound and gave the Texans 6.1 solid innings in the pitcher’s duel, surrendering just a run on four hits while striking out six. Seth Hallmark walked two and couldn’t get out of the seventh inning, but Troyal Yosko survived the jam and also shutout Cameron in the eighth. Hunter Houston kept the Aggies silent in the ninth for his sixth save.
Junior left fielder Matt Olive delivered the winning hit in the milestone victory, a single up the middle that brought Landon Merka in to score for a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh. Olive scored an insurance run moments later when Jonathan Schmitz doubled to left.
Tarleton grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Kevin Meredith tripled and scored on a ground out by Landon Merka. Cameron tied it in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Brandon Wright.
Schmitz was 2-for-4 for the Texans, while Alec Humphreys was 2-for-5.
Tarleton stayed in Lawton, Okla. for a Sunday doubleheader against Cameron. Watch for a recap on The Flash Today.
